Why Rush SAE?

SAE is the country’s largest national fraternity. Since its inception over 235,000 college men have chosen to pledge and ultimately become brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Although brothers in SAE come from diverse heritages and have a wide range of interests, the one unifying characteristic we seek in each potential pledge is the ability to lead. Prominent SAE’s are prevalent in all aspects of American society, including US President William McKinley, Chicago Bulls Head Coach Phil Jackson, Hall of Fame Golfer Bobby Jones, and world renowned author William Faulkner.

Here at Georgia Southern University, brothers of Georgia Alpha Chapter of SAE enjoy the benefits of maintaining a larger chapter, but at the same time we seek to maintain the idea of close relationships. However, as brothers of SAE we enjoy the benefits of membership in a strong national organization, including a friendly home of over 250 campuses across the country as well as the support of the national office.

Right now, Georgia Southern’s SAE’s are making and impact on all aspects of life at GSU. Our members include the President and Vice President of our Interfraternity Council here on campus. Currently, we have two members that are involved in the Order of Omega honor society. Many of our members are exemplary athletes, who play in various varsity letter sports here on campus. Sigma Alpha Epsilon is growing stronger each year and we expect our future pledge classes to continue our tradition of campus leadership and academic excellence.

This is a picture of pledge class Omega at our founder Noble Leslie Devotie's grave.  Each pledge class since the beginning of our chapter has paid homage to our founder with their presence.

What pledgeship hopes to accomplish!

Pledge education is the process of creating better brothers by orienting them in the privileges and responsibilities of membership. A sound program will create an environment in which pledges will function in harmony with the active Chapter for the betterment of the entire brotherhood.

It is essential to begin the program as quickly as possible in order to get the pledges involved before they lose interest. It is also important to familiarize the pledges with the Greek System and with the Chapter’s expectations immediately after they accept a bid.

Pledge ship is a period of preparation for greater participation and responsibility. The pledge should be challenged and made to consider the importance of the Fraternity experience in his life.

The purpose of Pledge ship is to make a responsible Brother and "True Gentleman", who participate actively in Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

The following is a list of goals that the pledges must complete before initiation:

1) Knowledge of the rights and responsibilities of membership

2) Knowledge of chapter operations, finance, and most importantly heritage

3) Knowledge of the history, traditions, programs, policies and the government of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.

The culmination of pledgeship marks the beginning of a true commitment and loyalty to the fraternity. "Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self- sacrifice."

-President Woodrow Wilson
