Why would I want to become a
Sinfonian?
Sinfonia is a way of saying "Symphony" not as a physical people but more over as a musical performance. One of our original founders George W. Chadwick brought forth the word in the years of our birth as a fraternity. It has been a strength for over a hundred years and even still today is represented by the bond of eternal brotherhood.
Is
Sinfonia a professional or social fraternity?
Phi Mu Alpha
Sinfonia Fraternity of America is a Social Fraternity with professional ideals.
In that: We are a Brotherhood of men with common goals within music. We are not
a member of the IFC but we are a Nationally and GSU recognized Social
Fraternity. We are quite well acquainted with the local chapters of the
assorted Greek Life on campus.
How does Sinfonia service their community?
A Sinfonian knows that a number of great gifts have been presented unto him and he believes that his gifts should be shared. We as a National Fraternity emphasize the necessity of community involvement.|

Currently the Zeta Omicron Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Performs 2 musicales a year. |

We also involve ourselves by hosting the annual spring music department softball challenge. |

Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia also participates in the Mills Music Mission which is a philanthropic outreach to our community. |
What musical talents are required for induction?
In order to become a Sinfonian you must exhibit a love for music. Music must in some way be a vital part of your life.
Does Sinfonia participate in any "hazing-type" activities?
In a direct
Quote from our National Headquarters at Lyrecrest:
"Under no circumstances
shall members indulge in any form of hazing including but not limited to public
or private harassment that in any way might be personally degrading embarrassing
or destructive of life limb or property or that might bring discredit to the
reputation of the fraternity."
The quote continues to
outline the strictest possible disciplinary actions that will be taken by
Nationals in the case of hazing. Our chapter turned 50 on May 15, 2003 making it
the oldest greek organization at Georgia Southern. We cannot, do not, and will
not haze any member, period.
Zeta Omicron performs at least one musicale per year in celebration of American music. It takes place at the Foy Building in accordance with the GSU Department of Music. The annual pallet usually contains several fraternal anthems as well as a talent demonstration and is open to the general populace.
How long is a Probationary Period?
Our probationary period is required to be at least 6 weeks and not to exceed 12 weeks. This amount of time is necessary to instill in those inducted the morals of the fraternity through education and familiarization with the chapter.
What type of campus activities outside of music is Sinfonia immersed in?
The Zeta
Omicron Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America is involved in
campus activities. Currently we are participating in:
-Intramural Softball
-Group outings to football,
basketball, and softball games.
-Spring Formal with Sigma
Alpha Iota
-The Brand New Annual music
department ice cream social
-Intramural Flag Football
-Pre-game tailgating from
Pride field!
-Phi Mu Alpha Night out

Why would
I want to become a Sinfonian?
There is no one
reason to become a Sinfonian. The best thing you could do to find out is to
come to our informational meetings, we can further answer any questions
you might have about becoming a Sinfonian and you can meet the Zeta Omicron
brotherhood.
