Lion Dancing

Lion dance is a cultural aspect of Chinese culture. The story goes that in olden China there was a village who was pilleged by a evil spirit every year at a certain time. This evil spirit always had to be given spoils from the village and finally the villagers were fed up with this. When the day came for the evil spirit to return, two men from the village appeared before the evil spirit dressed in a costume that resembled a "lion"; along with the loud beat of a drum. This scared the evil spirit away and it never returned.

There are two types of lion dance: northern and southern. The difference between the two are drastic. Northern lions look more like dogs and tend to be more acrobatic. Southern lions look more like a lion and can be acrobatic, but also relies on traditional stepping patterns. We perform the traditional southern lion.

Lion dancing is performed on wedding days and every Chinese New Year at the end of January. If you are interested in lion dancing and performing in front of many people, then contact me immediately!
